Salomon ben Jehuda, latinisiert Avicebrọn oder Avencebrọl, jüdischer Philosoph und Dichter, * Málaga um 1021, ✝ Valencia 1058 oder 1070; wirkte im arabischen Spanien als Philosoph und Dichter (zum Teil auch in arabischer Sprache). G.s Dichtung umfasst Hymnen, Klagelieder, Gebete und Bußgesänge; ein Teil davon wurde in die jüdische Liturgie aufgenommen; sein berühmtestes Werk ist das hebräische Lehrgedicht »Keter malkut« (Königskrone). Sein ursprünglich in arabischer Sprache abgefasstes Hauptwerk, das gewöhnlich unter dem hebräischen Titel »Meqor hayyim« zitiert wird und nur in der um 1150 erstellten lateinischen Übersetzung von Johannes Hispanus unter dem Titel »Fons vitae« (Lebensquell) erhalten ist, enthält jüdische religiöse Ideen, verbunden mit arabischem Aristotelismus und alexandrinischem Neuplatonismus, und behandelt metaphysische Probleme im Umkreis der Unterscheidung zwischen Form und Materie. Besonders wegen seiner pantheistischen Gedanken stieß Ibn Gabirol bei den Juden auf Widerstand. Er gilt als erster jüdischer Philosoph des Abendlandes und hatte bedeutenden Einfluss auf die Philosophie des Mittelalters bis Spinoza.
